About John Shomby
John is one of the most respected mentors in radio. He has worked with high-profile talent and aspiring programmers in multiple formats including CHR, Country, Mainstream Rock, Classic Hits, Sports Talk, and Contemporary Gospel. He has launched stations in Augusta, Flint, Birmingham, Portland, Dallas, and Norfolk/Virginia Beach.
John is based in Nashville, TN, and for the past fifteen years, has worked exclusively in Country Radio. Recently, he served as Director of Nash Programming for Cumulus Media, overseeing several syndicated country radio shows with a nationwide presence, including The Ty Bentli Morning Show, Nights with Elaina, The Blair Garner Show, and Kix Brooks’ American Country Countdown and was the day-to-day Program Director of (country) WKDF- Nash - FM 103.3.
John has programmed both locally-owned and corporate-owned properties which allows him to provide rare insight into both environments. Known for staying ahead of the curve, he can help talent and programmers successfully navigate the “new normal” in the industry.
Two of John’s most prestigious honors include Radio Ink Magazine’s Top Country PD’s and WGH- FM Academy of Country Music’s Large Market Station award. He also has the distinction of being Mark Cuban’s first internet-streaming client and, as such, was the first to stream live audio on the radio 24/7 in the U.S.
John has worked extensively with the industry’s top research companies and leading consultants. He has an excellent relationship with record labels and artists’ managers and is highly regarded by his peers. He is a member of Nashville’s Leadership Music organization and has served on the Country Radio Broadcasters Board of Directors since 2005, currently as Vice President.
